CGI.Backgrounds' Artist of the Month for March 2024: Sükrü Cengil

For our March 2024 artist of the month, we're excited to share with you the work of Sükrü Cengil. As the head of Design Visualization at Volkswagen, Cengil brings both deep experience and a skilled artistic eye to his automotive rendering work.
On his LinkedIn profile , Cengil recently shared a series of powerful and emotional renderings of the Porsche 911 Targa.
What stood out to us about Cengil's work is his use of lighting to bring a tremendous amount of salience and emotion into his scenes.
This rendering of the Targa, for example, shows a scene that's relatively common in the automotive rendering world: a vehicle on a racetrack.
Through his use of light, though, Cengil elevates the scene. By choosing to set the scene during the golden hour, with a vibrant sunset illuminating the Targa, Cengil highlights the warmth, connection, and nostalgia many people feel for Porsche's iconic 911.
The warm, low color temperature light results in beautiful, soft reflections on the Porsche, which is shown frozen in motion.
In contrast, in another rendering of the same vehicle, Cengil chooses to place the Targa into a dynamic city scene, lit by blue-hued, starkly bright street lights.
Here, the emotion is just as powerful but evokes something entirely different. The stark city lights underscore the raw power and mechanical wizardry of Porsche's machine.
The ability to achieve such emotional dynamism is what elevates Cengil's work from mere illustrations of a vehicle to something truly artistic.
Cengil communicates powerful emotions through light by leveraging CGI.Backgrounds’ industry-leading RAY.HDRi Maps . Because our HDRi Maps capture the exact lighting conditions in a real-world scene, they're perfect for the kind of image-based lighting that Cengil uses in his automotive renderings.
Whether you want to capture the diffuse light of a beautiful redwood forest, the soft light of a racetrack at sunset, or the stark light of a city, our collection has you covered.
